Josephine Hawke, PhD is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Medical School. Her research interests include factors that influence treatment process and outcomes among adolescents with comorbid substance use and trauma-related disorders. Her work has included examining studies of HIV seroprevalence and drug dealing among women, long-term treatment outcomes among adolescent clients in residential treatment, risk and protective factors related to drug use among Hispanic youths, and evaluations of drug treatment initiatives for probationers and inmates that were funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). A recurring theme in her work has been the effects of trauma, violence and childhood abuse on drug use and mental health outcomes. Her current focus is on clinical research on evidence-based services for adolescents. She supports the work of community-based providers and family advocacy groups through her research collaborations.
